The following Management Programs
and objectives have been compiled as................................

The Road Map to Quality Landlocked Salmon Fisheries in Maine.

 

I.      Designate "Classic Landlocked Salmon Waters" for the State of Maine, beginning with a review of the Size Quality
        Management Waters proposed in the DIF&W Landlocked Salmon Plan.  

II.    Assist in the Development and Implementation of "Regulations that Specifically Enhance and Protect Wild and Stocked
        Landlocked Salmon"
on selected waters to significantly increase the opportunity to catch salmon over 5 pounds.

III.   Support a "Research and Management Program for Smelt" that emphasize improving smelt populations to support faster
        salmon growth in Classic Salmon Waters.  

IV.   Promote a "Habitat Management and Restoration Program" to create, enhance, maintain, and restore salmon & smelt
        spawning and nursery habitat where deemed appropriate to the primary focus of this project.                 

V.     Assist in the Development and Implementation of a management plan designed to "Minimize the Negative Impact of
        Competing Species."
                                     

VI.    As feasible "Research all Aspects Affecting the Dynamics of Landlocked Salmon"

VII.  Work towards a "Volunteer Recruitment Program" that organizes, trains and certifies volunteers to aid the Fisheries Division in
        areas that will enhance the Division's ability to manage the "Size Quality Management Landlocked Salmon Waters."
